Department of Anatomy

Department of Anatomy is responsible for teaching pre-clinical cadets of AMCC. The department teaches various discipline of Anatomy namely Gross Anatomy, Embryology, Neuro Anatomy, Histology, Radiological Anatomy and Living Anatomy providing special emphasis on general, applied and functional aspects. Three academic terms cater for 530 hours out of which theoretical lecturers cover 115 hours and rest 415 hours are for practical, dissection and demonstration classes.

Department of Physiology

Departement of Physiology is entrusted of teach medical physiology in 03 terms during first one and half year of MBBS course. The aim of teaching physiology is to make medical cadets understand the normal functions of human body, the home ostatic mechanism and also the physical and chemical factors that are responsible for the orgin, development and progression of life. At the end of the course the medical cadets will be able to interpret the normal and abnormal functions of different structures of human body and thus would be able to execute the attained knowledge and skill to proceed in higher studies and research in the field of medical science. Total allocation of teaching hours for the subject for each course is 380 hours ; of those 240 fours are for lectures and tutorial classes and the rest 140 hours for practical skills.

Department of Biochemistry

Department of Biochemistry helps to understand the maintenance of health and effective treatment of diseases. The department is thus organized to teach students about basic knowledge on life process depending upon chemical principles, performing and interpreting biochemical laboratory tests and procedures and requisite knowledge for higher studies and research. The teaching methodology involves theoretical lectures, tutorials and practical demonstrations which include 130 hrs for lectures, 110 hrs for tutorials and 110 hrs for practical classes.

Department of Forensic Medicine

Department of Forensic Medicine offers tarining to the medical cadets of 3rd year of MBBS course. The aim of department is to increase the dept. of knowledge of cadets on various subdivisions of forensic Science, Medical Jurisprudence and Toxicology. So that they become capable enough to discharge their professional duties with sincerity & effectiveness during medical practice in the society and maintain the highest standard of medical ethics. Also this subject prepares the doctors to become quite competent to help the administration of justice by giving medico legal opinion regarding disputed cases of injury, sexual assault, identification of unknown person, age determination, poisoning and most of all determination of the mode, manner and cause in complicated incidents like a sudden, suspecious, unnatural, unattended, medically unexplained, litigious death. Total allocation of teaching hours for the subject is 195 hours, out of which 80 hours are for theoretical lecturers and the rest 110 hours for tutorial & practical classes and 05 hrs for ITP/ assignments.

Department of Community medicine offers training to the medical cadets at 1st year & 3rd year of MBBS course. The objective of this course is to provide community-oriented and need based medical education so as to produce good young dedicated doctors to ensure universal health services through effective Primary Health Care. 05 hrs of lectures should be taken at 1st years under course comprises of 110 hrs of lectures classes, 160 hrs of practical/ tutorial classes and 30 days of community based medical education (COME) and 05 hrs integrated teaching (total 275 hrs + 30 days)

Department of Pathology

Pathology is a bridging discipline involving both basic science and clinical practice and is devoted to the study of the structural and functional changes in cells, tissues and organs in diseases. Department of Pathology offers training to the medical cadets of 4th years of MBBS course. The medical cadets of 5th year MBBS course will also be involved in the clinico pathological conferences for continued learning of the subject. The main objective of the department is to acquaint the medical students with etiology and pathology of the diseases, and to enable them to formulate and interpret laboratory investigations and to stimulate a scientific procedure of ‘Thinking’ on the pathogenesis of diseases. Total allocation of teaching hours for the subject is 228 hours, out of which 100 hours are for theoretical lectures and 128 hours for tutorial/practical classes.

Department of Microbiology

Medical Microbiology is a rapidly expanding branch of modern medicine. Microbial diseases contribute for more than fifty percent (50%) of all sick-reporters in a hospital. Moreover many non-communicable diseases like peptic ulcer, cancer, diabetes etc now proven to have microbial aetiology. The department of microbiology is dedicated to impart training on microbiology to the 4th year MBBS course and it deals with training on bacteriology, virology, immunology, parasitology and mycology. The main objective of the department is to acquaint and enrich the medical students with aetio-pathogenesis, immunological response and laboratory diagnosis along with clinical interpretation of lab reports. The department also guides the students regarding the treatment of microbial diseases and infection control. Total allocation of teaching hours for the subject is 190 hours, of which 100 hours are for theoretical lectures, 90 hours for tutorial and practical classes.

Department of Pharmacology & Therapeutics imparts training to the medical cadets of 3rd phase of MBBS course. The main objective of the department is to teach medical cadets about detail knowledge of history, source, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics of the drug and its interactions etc. Medical cadets are also engaged to acquire therapeutic knowledge during placement in different wards of the hospital. One year Pharmacology course items are divided into two terms. Total allocation of teaching hours for the subjects is 200 hours, out of which 100 hours for theoretical lectures, 30 hours for tutorial classes, 50 hours for practical and demonstration classes and the rest 20 hours for clinical case report, assignment with presentation. Besides, students of 3rd phase of MBBS are allowed to remain present in different wksps/seminars related to drug. Visits to different well reputed pharmaceutical companies are arranged for their practical knowledge regarding medicine.

Department of Surgery offers training to the medical cadets of 3rd, 4th and 5th years of MBBS course. The main objective of the department is to provide community-oriented and community need-based education so as to produce good young doctors who will be able to diagnose and manage the common surgical problems/emergencies prevalent in Bangladesh ; undertake the responsibility of management of common casualties or natural calamities and identify the surgical problems requiring referral to the appropriate specialists. The allocation of teaching hours for the subject is 300 hours for theoretical lectures (Basic principles of surgery, Gastro-Intestinal surgery, Urology, Thoracic surgery, Neurosurgery, Cardiovascular surgery, Pediatric surgery, Organ transplantation surgery and the allied specialties-Anaesthesiology, Radiology & Imaging, Blood transfusion, Radiation oncology, Dental surgery, Physical medicine and Rehabilitation) Integrated Teaching Program for 20 hours and 3 ½ years (200 hours) of clinical practice in the affiliated teaching hospitals as well as the community-catchment areas as per syllabus.

Department of Pediatrics

Department of Pediatrics offers training to the medical cadets of 3rd, 4th & 5th years MBBS course. The main objective of the department is to render teaching of the subject with a view to develop trained medical graduates who will be able to manage common childhood problems in the community. Hence, at the end of the course the students will be able to manage emergency and common Pediatric and neonatal problems at the community level, identify neonatal and Pediatric problems that require secondary and tertiary care and refer them appropriately, use the growth chart in order to assess the growth and development of a child, provide emergency cardio cerebral resuscitation to new born and children, perform routine investigation and therapeutic procedures, serve the community during disaster and epidemics etc. In AMCC we also invite renowned guest Professors of Pediatrics to deliver lecture to the students .We also organize training workshop for students on important topics. We also conduct seminars on special days with active participation of the students .Department of Pediatrics take part in Integrated Teaching Program. Total allocation of teaching hours for the subject is total 50 hours (In 2nd phase:4 hours, 3 rd phase: 20 hours and 4 th phase:26 hours) for theoretical lectures and total 10 weeks( 2nd phase: 4 wks and 4th phase:6 wks) for clinical clerkship(ward duties) and 10 days block posting as per syllabus. During ward placement & block posting we allow the students to work in department of Pediatrics, CMH Cumilla to render hands on training on common childhood problems & procedure under constant guidance of our faculty members.
